Contribution of archaeology to the understanding of history related to the North-West region of Middle Danube (Possible interpretations of glass-beads findings beginning from the 7th up to the 10th century) Abstract The presented work, as to the type of findings (glass beads) and geographical scope has not yet been discussed in scientific literature. The analysis required a tailor made, new classification system of glass beads, as well as the modification of the existing relative-chronological periodization of early Middle Ages. The list of skeleton grave findings and places of beads was critically discussed (977 sites, 36 851 skeleton graves). More than 25370 beads were analyzed in an interdisciplinary way. Chemical analyses were implemented with three methods on selected types of glass. The results provide a link between the types of beads and their production technologies in relatively-chronological horizons of early Middle Ages. The styles of necklaces and their cultural interdependencies were identified. The results answer and clarify the question regarding cultural relationships between the Avarian Khanate, the Carolingian, Great Moravian and late Moravian cultures in the North-West region of Middle Danube and their contacts with other cultures outside this region. .
